Anterior commissure
A small bundle of commissural fibers that course through the basal ganglia and cross the midline in the anterior forebrain. Despite their proximitiy to the basal ganglia, these fibers do not interconnect the basal ganglia of the two hemispheres; rather, the bulk of the axons comprising the anterior commissure interconnect cortical regions in the anterior temporal lobes of the two cerebral hemispheres.
Location:
deep anterior forebrain
Function:
conveys bihemispheric interactions for anterior temporal lobes
