Accessory nerve, CN XI
Cranial nerve XI innervates the sternomastoid and trapezius muscles mediating movements of the head and shoulders; nerve originates from the spinal accessory nucleus in the caudal medulla and cervical spinal cord.
Location:
surface of ventral medulla
Function:
conveys motor control signals to sternomastoid and trapezius muscles
