Sylvius for Neuroscience: A Visual Glossary of Human Neuroanatomy is an interactive glossary of the human central nervous system. Sylvius for Neuroscience contains over 400 neuroanatomical structures and terms, each including a definition, one or more high resolution images or animations, audio pronunciation, and links to related terms and structures also found in the glossary. The interactive features in Sylvius for Neuroscience focus on efficient navigation, learning, and sharing:
- Glossary content is fully searchable and cross-referenced
- The Browse by Category feature allows the user to view structures and terms relevant to predefined topics
- Recently viewed images can be quickly reviewed via the History function
- Structures and images of interest can be bookmarked
- High resolution images and animations can be magnified 200%
- Term descriptions can be annotated via powerful Notes feature
- Notes can be shared between users or computers using a web browser and Internet connection
- Glossary content is searchable by Neuroscience, Third Edition, page number to view relevant specific terms
- Quiz mode allows for testing on structure identification
- Printing allows users to create a hardcopy version of any glossary entry complete with image, description, and notes

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: We have been using Sylvius 2.0 for several years as it has been bundled with the 2nd Edition of Neuroscience. How is Sylvius for Neuroscience different from Sylvius 2.0?
A: Sylvius for Neuroscience (SFN) and Sylvius 2.0 (2.0) are both valuable tools for neuroanatomy education but are quite different in their approaches. SFN is a visual glossary and is thus organized around alphabetized lists of anatomical structures and terms. Students use the glossary to search for a term and quickly gather basic information about a central nervous system structure. SFN is also integrated with the Neuroscience textbook (3rd edition). In SFN, Students can enter a textbook page number on which a Sylvius icon is located and view information on relevant anatomical structures . Sylvius 2.0 is a digital atlas of the CNS. Students use 2.0 to explore surface features and the internal structure of the human brain. Several different atlases and unique interactive features assist students in developing an understanding of the 3D organization of the brain. For more information see the Sylvius Comparison Chart.
Q: We are still interested in using Sylvius digital brain atlases for our classes. Can we still purchase Sylvius 2.0?
A: No, Sylvius 2.0 is now out of print. SylviusPRO shares a similar approach and extends the functionality of 2.0.
Q: Do I need an Internet connection to run Sylvius for Neuroscience?
A: No; however, one is required in order to register, share notes, and get product updates.
